Powered by peppermint

How could such sweet and wholesome hours
Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers?
–  Andrew Marvel
Dave was training for the Ironman Triathalon while working full time painting my house. He needed an energy boost, so I gave him some essential oil of  peppermint. The next morning, he bounded in, saying, “I’m powered by peppermint!”
And peppermint oil IS powerful. For instance, did you know that one drop of pure peppermint oil is equal to many cups of peppermint tea? Read on for more information on how peppermint can help you or those you love.
Peppermint essential oil is treasured for its refreshing, minty aroma and its distinct cooling sensation on the skin. Distilled from the leaves of the Mentha piperita plant, peppermint essential oil is typically four times more concentrated than peppermint extract.

Fun facts

The term “mint” is derived from the Greek name “Minthe,” a mythological nymph who was transformed into a plant by the goddess Persephone after she learned of her husband Pluto’s love for Minthe.

Top notes: peppermint uses

With a familiar, invigorating aroma, peppermint oil is perfect for diffusing. Freshen your area at work or give your home an uplifting aroma by diffusing peppermint oil.

Massage peppermint into your feet for an uplifting, invigorating start to your day! Or, dilute with Young Living’s V-6 massage oil and apply on your arms or legs after a workout for a pleasant, tingly sensation.

Young Living’s peppermint oil comes in two varieties: original, for aromatic (inhalation) or topical use, and ‘Vitality,’ for internal use as a dietary supplement or in recipes.

‘Original’ peppermint for aromatic (inhaling) or topical use

Enjoy your original Peppermint oil in these ways:

  • Feeling warm? Apply a drop to your fingertips and rub on the back of your neck for a cool, refreshing sensation
  • Want to stimulate your scalp? Add peppermint and rosemary essential oils to your favorite shampoo for a cleansing, stimulating massage
  • Feeling sore after working out? Dilute with Young Living’s V-6 vegetable oil and massage into your skin
  • Something smells? Add a few drops of peppermint, lemon and lavender essential oils to a spray bottle with distilled water. Spritz any area that you’d like to freshen up
  • Tummy rumbling? Rub on your abdomen to soothe an unsettled stomach
  • Travel turbulence? Inhale or put a drop on the back of your neck to make your trip more pleasant
  • Need a brain boost? Inhale peppermint when studying; it anchors the material. Then, when you are taking the test, inhale it again and see what happens

Note: peppermint oil can have strong aromatic fumes. So although you might like to hold it right up to your nose to inhale those invigorating scents, it is best to hold it a few inches below your nose.
Also, if you are applying it on the face or temples (for instance to support respiration or for cooling purposes), be sure that there is only a tiny amount on your hands, always stay clear of the eyes and stroke away from the eyes – as I’ve found that peppermint oil seems to ‘travel’ a bit. If you get some in your eyes, it will sting but most likely will not damage them. Dab some pure vegetable oil on a pad and pat the eye. Don’t use water – since oil and water don’t mix, oils travel away from water, which means that any oil that you accidentally got in your eye would go deeper in.

Peppermint Vitality for use in recipes or as a dietary supplement

Enjoy your Peppermint Vitality oil in these ways:

  • Digestive drama? Put 1 to 2 drops in a vegetarian gel capsule and take to support a healthy digestive system
  • Demanding day? Put a drop in a glass of cool water for a refreshing lift
  • Power drain? Blend with your exercise drink to power up your workout
  • Beastly breath? Put a drop on your tongue to freshen your breath (it’s strong!)
